Today’s Gay Men Won’t Have The
Same Struggles As We Did

They get parades for being gay, we got shoved in lockers. Is it any wonder why we’re full of shame and hating our bodies. Isn’t it time to release that shame? That’s why I created Unashamed, my 3-hour body confidence workshop for gay men. I got so sick of hearing how toxic the gay community is. It wasn’t until I was sitting my office during gay pride week, and my phone was ringing off the hook with men who needed help.

They wouldn’t even walk on the same side of the street of a gay bar for fear that someone drinking outside or inside might judge them. I realized I had a choice to do nothing or be part of the solution. I chose to be part of the solution. I know that by helping one person at a time we can make our community a better place.

There’s a Difference Between Feeling
Better and Getting Better

Feeling better is getting scrolling through Grindr seeking validation, getting better involves resolving the underlying issue that brings us so much pain.

As if it isn’t enough to feel shame about our bodies, we feel shame about shame, and that’s no way to go through life.

Workshop Description

A common myth is that accepting yourself is the same as giving up. That is simply not true. Learning to have a healthy and positive relationship with yourself and your body is not the same as being complacent—it’s the first step to achieving your goals.
It doesn’t matter whether you’re someone who’s avoiding going on that first date, using dating apps for validation, or if you’ve simply been looking to make some positive changes for years. Employing proven therapeutic techniques is a practical way for anyone, regardless of your goals, to move forward.

Join Nathaniel Cilley, LMHC, a licensed psychotherapist with over 14 years of experience, for a three-hour workshop that teaches you scientifically proven techniques to escape the cycles of negative self-talk and shame so you can finally be the person you’re meant to be.

In the Unashamed: A Gay Man’s Body Confidence Workshop, you’ll:

• Gain practical skills to break free from destructive all-or-nothing thinking
• Leave with concrete techniques to overcome negative self-talk to boost self-confidence
• Empower yourself to develop healthier dietary and exercise habits to reach your goals (and maintain this successfully long-term)
• Learn how to validate from within to no longer seek external validation (i.e., from Grindr, dating apps, needing constant reassurance from peers, etc.)
• Develop techniques to increase emotional resiliency and be self-assured regardless of how others perceive you

As gay men, we all want to feel independent and powerful, to look good and feel good, to have the confidence to change ourselves for the better. But when the desire to improve gets mixed up with feelings of shame or self-hate, then it can hold you back from creating healthy habits that will really stick.
By focusing on practical skills and scientifically-backed techniques, you’ll leave this workshop with:

• Higher self-confidence
• The ability to be present without obsessing about the way you look
• The confidence to not cancel dates and social plans
• The power to take rejection without it ruining your self-confidence
• Self-awareness and skills to make meaningful, long-term changes to your thinking

Client Review

"I really enjoyed the workshop, it helps me to understand myself, other gay men and the community. Knowing I’m not alone on this issue and what coping mechanisms we all have to deal with it allows me to give myself more grace and respect. I realized this is a long journey to heal, and willing to start putting in more work to it. The workshop also helps me to understand our community better to bring in the knowledge to work as we are building a gay dating app. It seems like gay body issues are especially heightened and triggered in that particular context. Overall, I had an insightful time and was really glad I signed up for it." - Peter C
